Simplifying your RV setup can make your camping experience more enjoyable and less stressful. Here are my tips to streamline the process:
Organize Your Gear: Keep your RV essentials organized and easily accessible. I Use storage bins, organizers, and labels to keep everything neat and tidy. Designate specific storage areas for different items to make it easier to find what you need. As an example, put your hookup items on the street (driver) side and your patio items on the curb (passenger) side of your RV.

Keep It Simple: Simplify your camping setup by minimizing the number of items you bring along. Focus on the essentials and avoid over packing. Consider multipurpose items that serve multiple functions to reduce the amount of gear you need to bring. You may decide to add items as you go RVing but make sure your RV does not end up looking like a camping store.
PRO TIP Always be mindful of how much weight you’re adding to your RV and truck.
Setup Routine: Develop a setup routine and stick to it. This helps create a sense of familiarity and efficiency, allowing you to quickly and confidently set up your RV without having to constantly rethink each step.
- PRO TIP I start with testing the Pedestal receptacle before I start to disconnect my RV, sometimes before I back into a site if it will be difficult to get into.
I use this tester. They make them in 50 and 30 AMP models
- Once in the site I check the level of the RV to determine the best way to level it and stabilize it. I don’t like my wheels in the air so I may use blocks or boards to put under them.
I use my Bubble Level APP to determine how many blocks or boards I’ll need to level the RV. Now choke your wheels.
- We always choke the wheels before we attempt to disconnect from our RV and use our leveling system. Then I use our leveling system get the RV completely level.
- When we’re level and disconnected from the RV I start my setup of the outside, while my wife does the inside. PRO TIP you both should learn each other’s procedures in case you need to do them alone.
- I start by connecting my surge protector then the power cord, sewer hose, then the water hose. PRO TIP- I use this sequence because when we get ready to move, I just reverse the process and so everything does not get tangled up as I put it away.
By implementing these tips and developing your own personalized setup routine, you can simplify the process of setting up your RV and spend more time enjoying the great outdoors.
