Frequently Asked Questions

Do you do DMV Inspections?

We do not perform any type of state required inspections. Please contact your Department of Motor Vehicles.

Are all RV inspections the same?

No, Elite1RV provides executive level inspections, compare our points of inspection and view our sample inspection report to see the difference. We are not the cheapest out there but we provide the best – CLICK HERE to see sample report and POIs

I'm ready to buy and I’ve arranged for transportation. How quickly can you do the inspection?

Please don’t arrange for transportation just yet. It will normally take two to three days to get the papers signed, payment made and the inspection scheduled. Things can change unexpectedly due to circumstances outside of our control. Be prepared to deal with delays should they arise.

What is covered in an inspection?

This depends on the type of inspection that is requested.

Elite 1 Premier Inspection – This is the most thorough inspection we provide which includes over 175 inspection points that address the safety, operability, functionality and integrity of the RV. The Elite 1 Premier inspection looks at vehicle data, roof, exterior walls, windows, doors, slideouts, seams & seals, all three electrical systems, chassis, tires, LP system, leveling/stabilizing systems, all installed appliances, fresh and waste water systems, interior condition including furniture, walls, floor coverings, counters and cabinets. We go through the whole RV and inspect to make sure you are aware of the condition. We do not disassemble the RV to look inside, but if it can be evaluated without disassembly, it will be.  There is a sample inspection report – Click here

Do you check for cigarette smoke, Pet and other odors?

We do our best to observe if the unit has been smoked in or pets have been present in the unit, but Some people can be more sensitive to certain odors. We do not test for odors or pet dander. We make a point to inform you if we detect any odors or covering scents during our inspections

Do I need to be present for the inspection?

No, it is not necessary for you to be present for the inspection. We love to meet our clients and you are welcome to attend if you would like to. We do request that distractions be kept to a minimum so that we can focus our attention on the task at hand and provide a quality inspection for our clients. We will gladly answer any questions you may have, we do request that you save them until the inspection is finished if possible. The best time for you to be there for the inspection is when the inspector is finishing up so he can go over the inspection report with you.

How are payments accepted?

Once your inspection is scheduled, we will send you an estimate that details the services you have requested and our standard contract. You can review and sign these electronically. After the contract is accepted, we will send you an invoice for payment. The invoice will have a link that will allow you to pay online.  We do not accept checks. We can make arrangements with you to pay cash when scheduling if required.

How long will the inspection take?

The length of the inspection depends on a number of factors.  The Elite 1 Premier Inspection can take between 6 and 12 hours. The length of time to do the inspection varies based on the type of RV, amount of installed equipment and the number of issues identified. We will not rush our inspections. We want to provide the best inspection possible and will take whatever time is necessary to complete the job.

I just found the perfect RV, how soon can an inspection be scheduled?

There are many factors that affect scheduling: inspector availability, seller availability, weather, travel, etc. We will do our best to meet your needs. Please contact us to discuss your scheduling needs.

What is needed for the inspection?

The RV will need to be available for the duration of the inspection without others working on it or it being shown. It will need to be set up so that everything inside and out can be fully evaluated. It will need full utility hookups including water, sewer, and electric. The pre-inspection checklists can be found here – Click here

Are inspections done on new RVs?

We do inspections on both new and used RVs. Serious issues can be found on new RVs, even after a dealer has performed their pre-delivery inspection (PDI). Dealer PDIs are limited in scope due to the time it takes to perform the inspection. In addition to doing pre-purchase inspections, Elite1RV also inspects RVs that you currently own to identify issues before they become major concerns.

Can you do an inspection at a dealership?

Yes! Most dealers are very accommodating in having an independent inspection. Please ask the dealer what their policy is regarding independent inspections. Proof of insurance can be provided upon request. Some Dealers may say no at first, you can insist or walk away.

Are you a certified RV inspector?

Yes I am a certified RV Inspector by the NRVIA and I am also a registered RV technician thru the RVTAA.

Are you insured?

Yes we carry commercial Liability Insurance

The seller is reluctant to allow an independent inspection, what should I do?

It would be concerning if the seller did not want to allow an independent inspection prior to completing the sale. Is there something the seller is afraid would be found that they have not disclosed?  What is the seller trying to hide?  The bottom line is that it is your money and you should have the opportunity to know exactly what you are spending it on, prior to completing the sale. It is your decision if you want to take a chance and make the purchase without an inspection (not a wise move) or to walk away from the deal and find another RV with a different seller who is more accommodating and up front.

How do I make sure the seller doesn’t sell the RV prior to getting the inspection reports?

We recommend that if you find an RV you want to purchase after having an inspection, work with the seller to have a written purchase agreement that gives you a set number of days to have the inspection and financing completed prior to completing the sale. If you place a deposit, make sure it is refundable if you decide not to purchase the RV within the timeframe agreed upon.

If I ordered an inspection on one RV can I change it to another RV?

The price that was quoted is based on the RV type and model. If for some reason that RV is no longer available, or you have changed your mind on that RV. Elite1RV will put your inspection on hold while you look for another RV.

What if I need to cancel my inspection?

In the event the inspection is canceled for any reason less than 48 hours in advance, Elite1RV will refund the inspection cost, less $300 plus any extended travel fees.

What happens after the inspection?

Once the onsite inspection is completed, the inspector will finish the report and email you a link within 24 hours so that you can view it. The inspector will give you a call to let you know the report is done and discuss the inspection report and any issues found. If you are at the RV when the inspection is completed the inspector will go over the inspection with you in person and answer any questions you may have.

Do you share the inspection report with others?

No. The inspection report and issues found are only discussed with the purchaser of the inspection and those who you specifically designate. As the buyer you are free to share the report with anyone you would like to. The only exception to this is that we will disclose life safety issues to anyone involved, we don’t want to put anyone in harms ways.

How far will you travel for an inspection?

We are willing to go just about anywhere to perform an inspection. We charge a $1.00 per mile for round trip travel in excess of 50 miles. We want our inspector to be well rested prior to the inspection to do their best job for you. If the one way trip distance is in excess of 100 miles there will be an additional charge for two days of per diem.

Who do you do inspections for?

Elite1RV performs inspections for anyone wanting one done. There are many situations where an inspection can be helpful.

BUYERS have pre-purchase inspections done to highlight issues that could cause problems in the near future. It is important to have that independent evaluation on the condition of the RV to help negotiate a price that takes needed repair costs into consideration. When purchasing a new RV it identifies problems that must be fixed prior to accepting delivery of the RV and shortening the wait time on repairs.

SELLERS can have inspections done prior to selling to help to set the price for the RV based on its current condition. Having a recent, certified inspection report to provide to potential buyers can be reassuring and help make the sale.

CURRENT OWNERS have inspections done to identify small problems before they become major ones. A little preventative maintenance now is much cheaper than major repairs in the future.

I’m thinking of buying from a private seller but they don’t have hookups for the inspection.

Elite1RV recommends that the RV be taken to a RV Park for the inspection. This works out well because most have good parking areas and full hookups. The downside to this is the cost for two nights stay and limited availability during certain periods. Let the scheduler know if this will be a problem as there may be other options available. Some RV Storage facilities have hook ups.

$50 from every inspection goes to one of the following veteran support organizations: Wounded Warrior, or Homes for Troops.
